August 28 – September 1

Please call the Counseling Office by 9:30am if your child is absent and you would like to pick up their assignments. Assignments may be picked up no earlier than 3:30pm in the Guidance Office.

Requests made  AFTER 9:30am may not be fulfilled due to time restraints and instruction.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Luray Middle School Counseling Program is to offer academic, social, and personal support to all students, as well as foster career exploration. The counselor will address the needs of students through individual counseling, small group counseling, and classroom guidance. The counselor will work in collaboration with parents/guardians, school staff, and community members to maximize student success and provide students with a strong educational foundation that will lead to a positive and productive future.


The counseling program operates under the belief that every person deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, or ability.

What does the School Counselor provide?

*Individual counseling
*Small group counseling (Some examples of possible groups: Social skills, Study skills, Self-esteem, *Grief, Friendship and many others) *Groups will be held during CSI or lunch.
*Classroom guidance (as needed)
*Conflict resolution for school-related problems  
*Crisis Intervention
*Schedule Changes
*Will create an Academic and Career Plan with each 6th grade student using the Virginia Education  Wizard 
*Will provide parents/guardians with educational, mental health and community resources as needed

Self-Injury, Social Skills, and MANY MORE!
*Workbook format that provides activities and self-reflection related to the above topics. Your teen can work through it at home at their own pace.
