Mission
Statement
The mission of the Luray Middle School
counseling program is to offer academic,
social, and personal support to all students, as well as foster career
exploration. The counselor will address the needs of students through
individual counseling, small group counseling, and classroom guidance.
The
counselor will work in collaboration with parents/guardians, school
staff, and
community members to maximize student success and provide students with
a
strong educational foundation that will lead to a positive and
productive
future.
Philosophy
The counseling program
operates under the belief that every person deserves to be treated with
respect, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, or
ability.
What services does the Guidance Counselor
provide?
- Individual counseling
- Small group counseling (Some examples of possible groups: Social
skills, Study skills, Self-esteem, Grief, Friendship and many others) *Groups will be held
during lunch.
- Classroom guidance (as needed)
- Conflict resolution for
school-related problems conflict_resolution_tips.doc
- Crisis Intervention
- Will create an Academic and Career Plan with each 6th
grade student using the Virginia Education Wizard VA_Wizard_info.doc
- Will provide parents/guardians with educational,
mental health and community resources as needed Community_Resources.doc
