Dear LES Community, It is with great excitement that we start this new 2009-2010 school year at Luray Elementary – Home of the Bull Pups. This will be the first time in the history of our school that Luray becomes a “true elementary” school as it serves grades PreK-5. Currently, we are still one of the largest elementary schools in Page County with approximately 582 students. Our assistant principal, Denise Atkins, and I look forward to working with parents, staff and the community to bring every educational opportunity possible for the success of each child we see everyday. One new positive school-wide plan we will be implementing this year is called, “Super Citizens – Bull Pup Power”. Super Citizens are chosen by any staff member – teaching assistants, secretaries, bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria personal or teachers for doing their best. Every Monday morning we recognize those students who have received a Super Citizen Card – they come down, get their card, and their picture taken for the school bulletin board by the cafeteria area. Students get to choose three choices out of the six selections on the back of their cards. Each time they receive one of their choices, a staff member puts their initials by the the selection. After the three selections have been used, the office will take up the card. It is the hope of the administration to keep data on our Super Citizen Cards by name grade and person giving out the cards to decrease discipline and office referrals. This new program will help promote the positive at LES! Denise and I want every parent and child to know that our doors are always open to help handle concerns and questions. We both take our responsibility for the safety and security of your child very seriously. It is our goal to ensure that every student, staff member and community member are treated with dignity and respect every day. Best, Karin and Denise |
