Mission Statement

Page County Public Schools is committed to an
educational program that recognizes the unique
value and needs of the individual student. We
also acknowledge our responsibility to provide
appropriate educational opportunities for all
students in order for them to reach their fullest
potential.
We identify students in the following:
  • General Intellectual Aptitude (GIA) K- 12
  • Specific Academic Aptitude (SAA)5-12 in the following areas:  
- Mathematics                      - Language Arts  
                   
Identification
  •  Screening of test data  
  •   Direct referral     
Student referrals may be accepted at any time
and at any grade level, K-12

Formal testing is administered three times per year: 

  • Round one in November -Referrals for testing candidates must be turned in by October 15th (deadline for permission is October 30th) 
  • Round 2 in February  - Referrals for testing candidates must be turned in by January 15th (deadline for permission is January 30th) 
  • Round 3 in May -Referrals for testing candidates must be turned in by April 15th (deadline for permission is April 30th) 

If your child's permission to test is received after a deadline above, then testing will be conducted during the next round


Formal testing can only be conducted once every three years on a student

  • Teacher Checklist/Questionnaire
  • Parent Checklist/Questionnaire
  • Student Interview
Eligibility

The Gifted Program Identification Committee
reviews all testing criteria and makes the
                              eligibility decision.                             

Identification Committee Members:
  • Gifted Program Coordinator or Designee
  •  Principal or Designee
  • Gifted Resource Teacher
  • Classroom Teacher (Child Advocate) 
Parents will be notified by mail of the
Eligibility Identification Committee's
decision.  Parents may appeal the decision by
contacting their school principal.

No one criteria on any screening instrument
will prevent a student from being placed in
the Gifted Program.
Services

In Grades K-7, the Gifted Resource and
classroom teachers work cooperatively to
plan appropriate differentiated curriculums to
meet the needs of the gifted students.

To accelerate and enrich the content for the
gifted learner, the regular classroom
teacher/Gifted Resource Teacher use one or
more of the following strategies:

In Grades 8-12, the Gifted Resource Teacher
and the Guidance Counselors assist identified
students by offering opportunities which
foster the development of their interests and
abilities.

Local Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee meets regularly
during  the year to advise the school division
on the education of its gifted children. The
Advisory Committee is composed of parents,
community  members, Gifted Resource
Teachers, administrators, and the Gifted
Program Coordinator.
