Classes in grades five through seven are departmentalized. Students receive instruction in language arts, reading, science, social studies, math, physical education, and health. Students in seventh grade take pre-algebra classes. All students have a daily class in the computer lab where they receive technology instruction, including word processing and keyboarding, as well as skills practice.
Language Arts
Students in sixth and seventh grade use the Accerated Reading Program
to enhance the reading
program. Students are encouraged to read the Virginia Young Readers
List of books. Any
student who completes twenty books from the approved book list receives
a reading trophy
at the end of the year.
In addition students receive weekly instruction in art, music, and physical
education from itinerant teachers. Students may also participate in band
and chorus.
